Belarus takes over interim CIS presidency instead of Ukraine
Belarus holds the CIS interim presidency after Ukraine's decision to quit the grouping, Prime Ministers of CIS member states confirmed today.
Belarusian Minister for Foreign Affairs Uladzimir Makei is in charge of it. Belarus claimed that it was Ukraine’s refusal. Belarus will try to strengthen friendly relations in the CIS, Makei stressed.
Ukraine refused from presiding in the CIS and started considering the necessity of its further membership in the commonwealth on March 19.
Belarus will preside at meetings of the council of CIS Presidents, the Council of CIS Prime Ministers and the CIS Council of Ministers this year, BELTA reports.
