Belarusian banks announce new exchange rates
The difference from the National Bank’s official rates does not exceed 2%.
The Belarusian banks set new currency exchange rates on January 9. They do not exceed the official exchange rates by more than 2%. The National Bank recommended the banks to stick to this policy on January 8, BelaPAN reports.
Thus, the maximum dollar exchange rate is 14035 roubles which is 2% more than the official arte (13760). The euro exchange rate is also 2% higher than the official rate – 16565 roubles.
The restrictions imposed by the National Bank are aimed at eliminating the multiplicity of exchange rates in Belarus, bankers think.
The multiplicity appeared when the National Bank introduced a 30% foreign currency purchase fee on December 19. The situation was producing a negative effect on enterprises, Belarusian business unions claimed at the end of 2014. They appealed for official devaluation.
The National Bank abolished the currency purchase fee on January 8.
