Belarusian MFA sets date for next round of visa talks with EU
The second round of negotiations was held in Brussels a few days ago.
The third round of talks between Belarus and the European Union on the conclusion of visa facilitation and readmission agreements will be held in Minsk in early 2015. According to the press service of the Belarus MFA, the second round of negotiations was held on 24-25 November in Brussels. Delegations continued to work on the drafts taking into account the comments suggested by the parties after the first round (it was held in June 2014 in Minsk).
The EU invited Belarus to start negotiations on visa facilitation as early as 2011. However, only a year ago, at the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Uladzimir Makey said that Belarus was ready to start such negotiations. To date, Belarus is the only country in the Eastern Partnership whose citizens pay 60 and not 35 euros for a Schengen visa.
