Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affaires says PACE resolution is “counterproductive”
The press secretary of the Belarsuain Ministry of Foreign Affaires Andrei Papou said that yesterday’s resolution of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly was “counterproductive per se”. According to him, the resolution “is based of false information” and it “does not help establish real cooperation and a dialogue”, informs “Interfax”.
Let us remind you that the Political Commission of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly urged all the Council member states and Russia in particular to solicit the Belarusian authorities in connection with the problem of political prisoners. It happened after a Cyprian parliamentarian Christos Pourgourides made a report about abuse in the system of legal justice in Belarus.
The PACE Political Commission suggested creating a work group of human rights defenders in order to help victims of human rights violation and their families. It should also uncover the people responsible for such law violations and repressions.
PACE has urged the Belarusian authorities to impose a moratorium on death penalty and to abolish the article of the Criminal Code according to which people can be prosecuted for acting on behalf of unregistered organizations.
