Volleyball: Belarus women's team through to European champs 1/8 finals
Belarus volleyball women's team records the best performance over 15 years by advancing to the European championship 1/8 finals.
The Belarus volleyball team will play Turkey on Tuesday, September 10.
Our girls lost to the Russians in the first match of the group stage of the continental championship, hosted jointly by Germany and Switzerland. Afterward, they suddenly defeated Azerbaijan 3:1. Belarus was defeated by Croatia in the last match of the group stage but still made it to the 1/8 final.
"This is Team Belarus’ first victory at the continental championships in 15 years. The previous success was registered in 1997 when our team defeated Bulgarians," said Belarusian Volleyball Federation spokesman Alyaksandr Novikau.
The European Championship started with a scandal for Belarus: the players had not initially receive all the necessary gear and uniforms. However, they got most of their equipment in a last-minute effort by the Federation.
