Belarusian and Ukrainian border guards revealed no arms trafficking channels between the two countries, officials from Belarus and Ukraine said when they met on 23 October in Kamianiuki in the Brest region, reports the press office of Belarus' Border Control Committee

The meeting focused on the results of the border protection activities in the past eight months of 2018. The border control officials from Belarus and Ukraine noted that no organized channels to traffick weapons, ammunition, explosives and other hazardous items had been detected. However, they agreed to continue coordinating their actions to prevent these illegal activities.

Euroradio reported earlier that on 24 September Belarus President Aliaksandr Lukashenka urged the government to reinforce the border with Ukraine to stop the contraband of weapons. Later, Belarus Security Council State Secretary Stanislau Zas said about the trafficking of guns from Ukraine

However, during the recent meeting with former Ukraine president Victor Yuschenko in Minsk Lukashenka said that the arms were trafficked from Ukraine into Belarus via Russia.
