A protest action against the construction of a battery plant was conducted in Brest. About 100 people came to Lenin Square, rights defender Raman Kislyak told TUT.by.
The action was not authorized. People gathered at 12 p.m. – they had no posters and did not pronounce any mottoes. They gathered in small groups and discussed the problem of the construction of the plant.
A fest dated for Defender of the Fatherland Day started in the same square at 1 p.m. Rescuers organized a demonstration performance and showed their readiness to help in emergency.
The protesters left at about 1.30 p.m.
Bresters and inhabitants of nearby villages and gardening communities are worried about the construction of the battery plant. The new plant will be situated 750 meters away from the village of Haby, 1200 meters away from a cottage township, 1800 meters away from Shebryn, 2500 metres away from Telma-2 and 2 kilometres away from the River Muhavets.
People sent a demand to stop the construction of the plant to the President’s Administration on February 22. It was signed by 36 thousand people.
