Catalonian leader to be charged for referendum

Spain is going to charge Catalonian PM Artur Mas for supporting the unofficial independence referendum in the region, BBC reports.

According to the Catalonian authorities, over 2 million local inhabitants took part in the symbolic voting on November 9. Over 80% of them supported the idea of independence from Spain. However, the voting has no legal effect.

The Spanish Constitutional Court forbade the Catalonian authorities to hold the referendum at the beginning of November.

The Catalonian leader is accused of contumacy now.
