Did Lukashenka made a slip calling Prakapovich Prime Minister?
Addressing the Belarusian people and the National Assembly today, Alyaksandr Lukashenka suddenly called the head of the National Bank of Belarus Pyotr Prakapovich … a prime minister. As far as it is known, the current Prime Minister is Syarhei Sidorski.
Speaking about the credits Belarus received from Russia, Venezuela and the International Monetary Fund, Lukashenka noted:
"It is worth mentioning that we did not receive any remarks during the work of the IMF mission. The Prime Minister… Pyotr Pyatrovich Prakapovich informed me about it. There was not a single remark about the economic policy of Belarus. It had never been like that before”.
Other issues mentioned by Lukashenka today:
Belarus should be the first to overcome world financial crisis
“Belarus was among the last countries affected by the world crisis but it should be the first to overcome it”, - claimed Lukashenka.
According to the state leader, “discipline and order” are the main tasks of economic development. “I have been informed that people would like to live in Belarus like in a social security agency… I will work if I like and I won’t if I don’t feel like to. It will not be this way! I have ordered the government to struggle with such ideas”.
We still do not know how to make money on tourism
Developing the human services is one of the tasks of economic development.
According to Lukashenka, the country “still lacks hotels, has no campings and few diners”. “We do not know how to make money on tourism, we cannot pick it up from the ground”, - said Lukashenka.
He suggested that local authorities should allow private entrepreneurs in tourism and “let them loose”.
Opposition members are “public enemies” but Milinkevich isn’t
Talking about the opposition, its attitude to his trip to Prague and the possibility of inclusion of Belarus in “Eastern Partnership”, the leader of the state called the opposition “public enemies”.
"The opposition whines: “Do not allow Lukashenka in Prague, he is so-and-so”… This is not the opposition, they are just public enemies. There is nothing of the kind in any country of the world… Even Russian communists do not afford it…
Does the opposition that is against the people’s normal life have any prospects in this state? No prospects!
What if we publish the letter they have sent to Prague?.. However, not all of them are like this. Milinkevich has not signed it. “This is our country’s downfall”, - he said.
Belarusian leader disputes the fact that governmental clans influence his decisions
Кіраўнік Беларусі аспрэчыў, што на прыняццё ім рашэнняў апошнім часам уплываюць " The Belarusian leader has refuted the fact that “governmental groupings” have influenced his decisions taken recently.
According to Lukashenka, there are rumours that there is “a new team” in the government (including his sons) exercising influence on him.
"They are rumoured to turn the history towards liberalization… My dear people, calm down, I am still able to shape the policy and take decisions myself…
They say there are groupings formed around the President that exercise pressure on him and say: “Come here, go there”. Calm down. The President is in normal condition. However, I tend to listen to others more…”, - said Lukashenka.
"There will be no crawling counter-revolution in Belarus!”
Speaking about the civil community of Belarus, he paid attention to attempts to use the current situation of establishing relations with the West to “overthrow Lukashenka”.
"Some people think that the integration of Belarus in European processes will slowly prepare a change of the political system in the country and the overthrow of Lukashenka…
I would like to respond, that a government is worthy of something only if it is able to protect itself and its people. As the leader of the state, I will do everything to protect the power of the people and not my own power. There will be no crawling counter-revolution in Belarus!”, - said Lukashenka.
Lukashenka to diplomats: Tell me if it is embarrassing for you if I go to Prague
Speaking about the relations of Belarus with the EU and the USA, Lukashenka mentioned the EU summit in Prague and drew the attention of the present diplomats to the fact.
"Europeans sometimes overestimate the importance of “Eastern Partnership”. Even minute details are important: Whether Lukashenka goes to Prague or not and how to make him refuse…
If it is embarrassing to have a Belarusian representative there, do not invite us, we will endure it… If you would like to invite us but do not want to see Lukashenka there, tell please… But we do not need any boorishness!”
Lukashenka also recalled the words of the Czech President who claimed the he would not shake hands with Lukashenka. “I will think before offering my hand to him”, said the Belarusian leader.
We will proceed from our domestic interests for at least an hour
Lukashenka paid attention to the position of Belarus between the East and the West and the reaction of Russia to our relations with the EU.
Lukashenka noted that “our task is to be a bridge connecting the East and the West”. According to him, “the basic principle of the Belarusian foreign policy is variety”.
"I hope the new administration of the USA understands the lack of prospects of talking to us using power or the language of sanctions”, - said Lukashenka.
The state leader noted the attitude of the Russian administration to the fact that Belarus was trying to establish normal relations with the EU”.
According to him, Russia tried “to understand” the desire of Belarus to get on closer terms with Europe at first. However, other opinions have appeared there. Some people are worried that modern weapons could get into the hands of “the opposition”. In this case, “we will buy missiles ourselves”, - claimed Lukashenka.
"I would like to ask both the West and the East to calm down. We will proceed from our domestic interests for an hour or for a minute”, - said Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
