Donbass battalion repels terrorists’ attack and takes prisoners
The self-organized territorial defense battalion is a very active unit in anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine.
It is called Donbass and well-known civil activist Semyon Semenchenko is its leader. The battalion took Velikonovosyolkinski District of Donetsk Oblast under control yesterday. They seized the local District Department of the Interior, Public Prosecutor’s Office and the District Council. The battalion Donbass cooperates with ‘the people's emergency volunteer corps’ created in response to the local authorities’ inactivity. Semenchenko’s troops gave the arms confiscated from the District Department of the Interior to pro-Ukraine citizen soldiers yesterday.
Information about pro-Russia militants from the battalion East heading for Velikonovosyolkinski District from Donetsk appeared late in the evening. Donbass was going to fight them, Semenchenko claimed. There was some battle in the district, UNIAN confirmed. Ukrainian volunteers shot at the column of militants that consisted of 7 buses and several cars. No Donbass members were lost. Several militants were injured – they had launched a grenade unsuccessfully. Semenchenko’s fighters took a few prisoners. The other pro-Russia ‘citizen soldiers’ retreated. They left a car with weapons behind.
