European Parliament to consider MEP Justas Paleckis's report
The European Parliament is expected today to approve the final report by MEP Jutas Paleckis on the situation in Belarus.
The European Union will start building its policy on the basis of the report and recommendations it contains, Radio Liberty reports.
The first part of the report published at the end of May mentioned some improvement in the human rights situation in Belarus observed in 2012. Representatives of political parties and human rights defenders were indignant at such notions.
The European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs approved the report in the second reading on July 9. About 300 amendments were inserted.
Paleckis supports the idea of releasing and acquitting political prisoners, he told Euroradio earlier.
