Europe proposes Day of Open Prisons to Belarus
Europe has proposed that Belarus holds ‘the Day of Open Prisons’. In respond, the Belarus authorities have allowed the German ambassador in Minsk to visit Aliaksandr Kazulin in prison.
The President of European Parliament Hans-Gert Poettering on February 8 in Brussels urged the Belarusian government “to open the doors of prisons and immediately release all the political prisoners.”
The EP President also noted that because of the row with Russia over energy supplies, “the Belarusian regime has been cornered.” Europe proposes that Belarus make “the first step” towards the European Union, according to PACE President Rene van der Linden, who recently paid an official visit to Minsk.
Possibly, allowing the German Ambassador in Minsk, Martin Hecker to have an appointment with Aliaksandr Kazulin has been the first step of Belarus, said the wife of political prisoner, Iruna Kazulina at the morning session of the European Parliament.
The German Embassy has not yet confirmed the reports.
