European Union agrees on sanctions against Russia, but postpones them
As expected, the decision was to be published on September 9 in the Official Journal of the EU.
However, the EU has decided to postpone for a few days introduction of new sanctions against Russia. They will, incidentally, affect defense companies, energy and financial sectors.
As the chairman of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, announced, on Monday the EU finally agreed to an extension of sectoral sanctions, but postponed their publication to assess the effect of the armistice in Ukraine. Rompuy noted that depending on the situation, the European Union is ready to fully or partially reconsider the sanctions agreed.
