FIFA: No reason to cancel championships in Russia and Qatar
FIFA sees no reason to cancel the football championships in Russia and Qatar. The head of FIFA auditors said that it was possible earlier.
The international football federation has made a statement as regards the World Cups 2018 and 2022. Russia and Qatar were chosen by means of ‘democratic voting’ in the FIFA executive committee, the organization announced. That is why there is no reason to deprive Russia and Qatar of the right to host the World Cups, RBK reports.
If any proof of bribery is found, Russia and Qatar may be deprived of the right to host the world championships, head if the audit FIFA committee Domenico Scala claimed earlier. However, no proof of such violations has been found yet, he added.
The idea of changing the hosts of the World Cups 2018 and 2022 appeared after the corruption scandal in FIFA. Corruption in FIFA reached $150 million in 20 years, American investigators say. FIFA President Joseph Blatter resigned several days after his re-election in connection with it.
