First Belarusian square of Olympic stars appears in Brest
The square of Olympic stars that was opened in Brest yesterday and a museum of sports achievements are called “The Olympic Glory of Brest Region”. A 6-metre stele containing the names of 12 famous sportsmen from Brest Region who won Olympic rewards has been installed at the new square.
They are Olympic champions Syarhei Makaranka (canoe-paddling), Yulіya Nestsyarenka (track and field athletics), Leanіd Taranenka (weightlifting), winners of silver medals Pyotr Pachanchuk (track and field athletics), Barys Іsachanka (archery), Hanna Batsyushka (weightlifting), winners of bronze medals Tamara Davydzenka (paddling), Yaraslava Paulovіch (paddling), Natallya Sazanachych (track and field athletics), Yulіya Bіchyk (boar-racing), Natallya Helah (boar-racing) and Syarhei Martynau (shooting).
Brest has become the first regional centre to have a square of Olympic stars. The initiators of the project are the Regional Executive Committee and the affiliate of the National Olympic Committee in Brest Region.
