Five drunk drivers detained in Minsk over one night
The detained drunk drivers will be punished with a fine of up to Br13 million (around 1000 EUR), under a newly enforced more stringent regulation.
All the five were detained for drunk driving for the first time, so none of them will lose their car. They face only administrative responsibility. Those who would face criminal charges and vehicle confiscation did not come across Minsk traffic police at night on October 24, Spokesperson for Minsk traffic police Tatsyana Kharlinskaya has told Euroradio:
"As for confiscation, no one got caught repeatedly yet. We are monitoring the situation - not yet. Probably, the major informational campaign brought its results, the drivers started thinking. Big fines stimulate them not to drive when they are drunk, not to mention the danger to lose the car."
Tatsyana Kharlinskaya added that about 10 drunk drivers get detained in Minsk every 24 hours. In weekends, this number increases twice.
On October 24, the law which prescribes confiscation of a vehicle from a driver who got caught for drunk driving for the second time came into force.
