Four Freedom Day applicants disclaim responsibility for rally
Four activists who filed an application to stage the Freedom Day rally in Minsk have disclaimed all responsibility for the action, according to the statements they signed. They said the city authorities violated the law by failing to reply to the action applicants withinin the time period stipuulated by the law.
According to Radio Svaboda, only one of the applicants - Aliaksandr Makayeu from Razam (Together) solidarity movement - will attend today's meeting in the Minsk city administration.
Under the procedure, officials were to reply to the application back on Monday, March 20. However, they first postponed a meeting with the applicants for March 22 and then for Friday, March 24. The meeting is scheduled at 1700.
One of the applicants, Dzianis Sadouski told Radio Svaboda that Makau too will disclaim responsibility if the authorities do not authorize to stage the rally how the applicants wanted: from the Academy of Sciences to Kastrycnickaja Square.
The application for the March 25 Freedom Day rally was signed by Aliaksandr Rusevich from the Movement for Freedom, Dzianis Sadouski from Belarusian Christian Democracy, Yahor Viniatski from United Civil Party, Zmicier Kaspiarovich from Belarusian Popular Front and Aliaksandr Makayeu from the Razam solidarity movement.
