Four Latvian citizens detained in Belarus return to their homeland
Latvian citizens were on their way to the music festival
Four Latvian citizens who were detained in Belarus in July on their way to the Viva Braslav festival have returned to their homeland, the Belarus 1 TV channel reports. The young people were released after tests showed that none of them was under the influence of drugs. It is known that a bag of marijuana was found in their car, but no traces of the detainees were found on it.
According to the TV report, the bag was accidentally left in the car in Latvia by a Latvian acquaintance. The detainees themselves said on video that it was not planted on them at the border.
The foreigners spent only a few days behind bars after their arrest, and then were allowed to stay in a hotel. And in early August, Aliaksandr Lukashenka weighed in on their case, ordering that it be "resolved. "Everyone started complaining: 'Look, he has introduced a visa-free regime so that he can arrest our people! Of course, this worries me," he said.
