G7, Council of Europe and European Commission say no to Crimean referendum
The G7, Council of EU and European Commission have urged Russia to stop supporting the referendum in Crimea.
The G7 leaders (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Great Britain and the USA), President of the Council of Europe Herman Van Rompuy and President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso have made a joint statement in connection with the Crimean referendum, RBK-Ukraine reports.
They will not recognize the referendum results: “Such a referendum has no legal power. Its unpreparedness and the presence of Russian troops mean that it will be deeply flawed process which would have no moral force. We will not recognize its results for all these reasons.”
The G7 think that ‘the annexation of Crimea’ could have grave implications for the legal order that protects the unity and sovereignty of Ukraine and all states.
The Crimean referendum is appointed for March 16.
