Government pledges $340 in wages
The wages in Belarus will increase at $28. According to the deputy economy minister of Belarus Andrej Tur, only Russia and Kazakhstan will have a higher monthly pay among the former Soviet republics.
However, Belarus has highest pensions among the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The highest salaries were reported in Minsk ($340/month), while the lowest pay was received in Brest ($244) last year
Every fourth Belarusian enterprise pays average wages of less than $200. The hardest hit are peasants, who are paid an average of $172 per month.
To prevent the workers of the petrochemical industry from feeling embarassed in front of agricultural workers, the government is drafting a measure to regulate the wages at the enterprises of natural monopolies.
