Government to raise electricity tariffs for households

Electricity tariffs for households will be raised, Energy Minister Uladzimir Patupchyk told reporters on October 13 at the opening of Belarusian Energy and Ecology Forum.

"We have calculated the tariffs for mid-term and short-term socio-economic development. To keep pace with the processes taking place on the macroecnomic level, the tariffs will be increased for households but they will be tied to the level of income of our people," BelaPAN quoted the official as saying.

The minister also said the tariffs for 2016 would not be changed for the real sector of economy. The tariffs for enterprises have been on steady decrease over the past three years. This was made possible owing to the modernization of manufacturing industry.

The tariffs for households were raised already twice this year - on January 1 and on March 1.
