Grain productivity drops in Belarus
Grain production in Belarus dropped from the previous year. As of October 1, 2016, Belarus harvested 7 million tonnes with the average crop capacity at 33.2 centners per hectare, reports BelaPAN quoting the stats from Belarusian Statistics Agency (Belstat). Cereals production declined by 1.9 million tonnes from the previous year, with the crop capacity lower by 6.5 centners per hectare lower.
Potato production has increased. By the early October, potato was harvested from 71.2% of planted areas, with yields totaling 686.6 thousand tonnes and crop capacity reaching 261 centners per hectare against 225 centners last year.
Sugar beets were harvested from 39.5% of planted areas, with the output reaching 1 million 456 thousand tonnes and the average crop capacity at 390 centners per hectare (against 269 centners on October 1, 2015).
Legumes were collected from 56.3% of planted areas. Production has increased by 15.6% against the same period in 2015, totaling 97.5 thousand tonnes with the crop capacity at 220 centners per hectare against 178 centners on October 1, 2015).
