Ice hockey: Names in Belarusian language banned on players' jerseys
Only Russian is allowed for writing the names of players on their jerseys in Belarusian ice hockey championship.
The provision is set out in Article 67 of The Rule and Procedures of Belarus Ice Hcokey Championship in the 2013/14 season.
The document is dated June 27, 2013 and signed by Belarusian Ice Hockey Federatrion (BIHF) chairman Yauhen Vorsin and Sports and Toursim first deputy minister Aliaksandr Hahiyeu, reports Belsat TV. Under Article 67, the names of players on jerseys shall be written in Russian only.
When asked by Belsat journalist for comment, BIHF manager Arsen Akavenka said the rules should be observed and declined to elaborate further.
The championship started on September 4, with ten teams participating. This is the first season when no foreign teams will play in the Belarusian open tournament. Previously, the teams from Latvia and Ukrane would usually participate.
