The Latvian Saeima has not banned cars with Belarusian license plates. But the movement of cars with Russian license plates is prohibited. The law will enter into force on November 15, while the new norms will come into force in three months. Such amendments to the Law on Road Traffic were adopted by the parliament on Thursday.

A car with Russian license plates must be registered or exported from Latvia no later than February 14, 2024, otherwise it will be arrested, confiscated and then transferred to Ukraine. Such cars will be allowed to transit through Latvia.

The original version of the amendments provided for a similar ban on cars with Belarusian license plates. However, the office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya ensured that the innovation would not affect them.
