Lida Castle to be restored for $10mln
One tower will accommodate a museum, while the second tower will have a cafe and a shop. The Soviet-made bricks will be replaced with mordern ones.
Lida, which in September this year will host the Dazhynski harvesting festival, wants to surprise its guests with the reconstructed Castle og Gedymin that was built in 1323). The restoration began 20 years ago, so some parts of the castle will have been reconstructed by late summer.
The first phase of the reconstruction has been focusing on the exterior of the castle. During the second stage, builders will construct components in the backyards in order to prepare the experior view for the harvest festival, Yaraslau Mikavoz, deputy head of the Lida District Executive Committee, told Euroradio. According to the local official, the project would cost $10 million.
