Lidziya Yarmoshyna: I will retire as soon as I am asked to
Lidziya Yarmoshyna does not know whether she will remain the CEC chairperson or retire. It depends on the administration of the country, she told Euroradio and confessed that she had no plans for her retirement.
Yarmoshyna: “I do not have any plans now because the decision has not been made. If the administration orders me to retire I will do it. Any decision would satisfy me.”
Lidziya Yarmoshyna is not planning to run for MP at the next parliamentary election. She has been ‘close to the government’ for a long time and it would be ‘too much’ to run for MP after retiring from the position of the CEC chairperson, she said.
Yarmoshyna: “The next election will be held in four years. I will be looking for a set of false teeth then.”
The Central Election Commission chairperson is appointed by the President. He also makes the decision about their retirement. Lidziya Yarmoshyna was born on January 29, 1953. She reached the pension age 8 years ago. Yarmoshyna has been the CEC chairperson since 1996. No Belarusian elections have been recognized by the international community since then.
