On 13 September, Belarus President Aliaksandr Lukashenka began his three-day official visit to Uzbekistan. He met with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the Blue Palace state residence 17 km off the capital city of Tashkent.
The heads of state are expected to focus during the talks on how to boost the trade and economic cooperation between the countries.
The state news agency BELTA reports Lukashenka invited Mirziyoyev to build Uzbekistan's embassy near the Palace of Independence in Minsk. The Uzbekistan president agreed to consider the proposal.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated that Belarus is "a close friend and a reliable partner" for Uzbekistan. Over the past two years, the relations between the countries "have exceeded all our expectations," he stressed.
