Belarus will render good support to the OSCE in the centre of Europe, Alyaksandr Lukashenka announced at a meeting with OSCE Special Representative for Eastern Europe Kent Härstedt on January 23.

Lukashenka suggested organizing a process to decrease tension in Europe and gave it the symbolic name “Helsinki-2”. “The planet’s leading states should join a round-table discussion in the OSCE and think about further actions aimed at decreasing tension on the European continent,” the President explained his idea.

Belarus is ready to establish good relations with the OSCE, Lukashenka assured. Yet, there is one condition, he stressed. “There is only one condition. Belarus is a sovereign state like Sweden and any other country. We cannot agree to be forced, taught or urged,” the Belarusian state leader announced.

He has been to Belarus many times, Kent Härstedt noted. He visited Belarus as a student 25 years ago, then he arrived as a UNICEF representative and then – as an OSCE representative a few times. He thanked the President for the successful organization of the PA OSCE session in Minsk in July 2017.
