Lukashenka: We will act according to European standards
Aliaksandr Lukashenka has called the December 19 events a "conspiracy" and has made a series of statements in this regard during the consultation session on the internal policy issues. "In the context of their demands from us, I would like to say we are not blood-thirsty. The destiny of those people for whom the European Union struggles so eagerly, is in their own hands", — BELTA reports Lukashenka's words.
"Neither the force structures, nor the President have anything to do with this. They decide for themselves. If they want to be in the detention center - let them be there. If they want to be with their families - that also depends on them. It's not a problem. The investigation authorities are solving this issue now".
However, according to the state leader, not just the investigation authorities, but the whole country has a series of questions to the opposition, and they expect answers to them. "It is absolutely useless to sit in the KGB prison, like mice under a broom, waiting for the Americans or the Europeans to come and release them".
"I would like to assure the Europeans clearly that we will act in accordance with the European standards. We will act as it is accepted in Europe", — said Lukashenka.
"We have no other options. If we keep on breaking Constitution and the laws in favour of politics, we will break the whole country in the near future. Many other countries' experience shows this", — summarized he.
