Mahileu observers banned from Azerbaijani election
Activists of a Mahileu NGO “Modes” spent the whole night at the Azerbaijani customs. Activists Aksana Samuilava, Vadzim Pahostser, Krystsina Sibahatulina and Alyaksandr Harbachou were members of the international mission. They headed for Azerbaijan to monitor the parliamentary elections together with Danes, Azerbaijani and Georgians on November 7. The coordinator of the “Modes” organization Syarhei Laputsin has informed ERB about it. Activists expected to get the promised accreditation in Tbilisi. However, they were informed that their accreditation had been annulled without any explanation and that they did not have the right to observe the election.
The activists bought plane tickets from Baku to Belarus in advance and had been planning to return from Baku at night. But they were detained at the customs. They spent the whole night in the police office of the border check-point “Bayuk Kasik”, says Syarhei Laputsin:
Laputsin: "They were informed that the reason for their detention was the fact that they were unwanted guests in Azerbaijan".
Mahileu activists will take a train to Tbilisi today, on November 8. They will return to Belarus from the city.
