Maidan activist beaten by Berkut died in Kiev hospital?
The 41-year-old man was beaten by the riot police and left alone in the street, his friend says.
Severely beaten Pavel Mazurenko died of the traumas in hospital, liga.net reports. The victim phoned his friends and said that the riot police had beaten him “for Maidan”. A group of Berkut fighters encountered the man on December 18, Pavel’s friend Sergei Sirotenko said.
The fighters stopped the activist and asked him to show his passport. Pavel only had a copy on him. The riot policemen decided that he had come to Maidan and that his passport had been taken away by his boss. “We are fed up with your Maidan”, they said. They beat Mazurenko and left him in the street. He got home on his own and his wife called an ambulance.
Forensic medical experts announced that the man had died of pneumonia, his friends say. Pavel’s relatives are looking for a lawyer now. They want to prove that the Maidan activist died due to the beating. They also want to find the culprits.
