On January 19, Homel Regional Court sentenced Homiel "Marozau's gang" hitman Siarhei Dzerbianiou to 15 years in a reinforced regime colony. Dzerbianiou is responsible for at least eight murders.

The "Marozau gang" was one of the biggest in Belarus in the 1990s. Dzerbianiou was one of its leaders. He was put on the international wanted list and hunted down for 15 years. It was only in 2019 that he was detained in Vladivostok, Russia, with a passport in someone else's name.

In 2020, the man was extradited to Belarus and has now been sentenced to 15 years for "murder with particular cruelty of two or more persons".

Bloggers Ihar Losik and Uladzimir Tsyhanovich have also received 15 years in prison. Syarhei Tsikhanouski was punished with an even longer sentence of 18 years.
