Medieval chessboard's fragments unearthed in Hrodna castle (photo)

A fragment of a medieval chessboard was found during archeological excavations at the Hrodna Castle, reports the Hrodna State History and Archeology Museum. Archeologists unearthed the artifact on 10 September.
This is not the first time when a artifact associated with the chess-game was found on the territory of the castler. In August, archeologists found a pawn made from a horn dating back to the 14th century. In October 2017, a rook made of horn was found. It also dated back to the 14th century.
A chess bishop was found during archeological excavations in Hrodna in 1930. It served as a prototype for the stone monument installed near the Castle Mount at the Nieman River bank.
