Belarusian prisoners stranded in Crimea
Aleh Slizheuski from Ministry of Justice answers Respubilika readers’ questions about Belarusians imprisoned in Crimea.
The prisoners who were convicted under Ukrainian laws remain in Crimean prisons after Russia’s annexation of the peninsula. They were expected to be transferred to prisons in mainland Ukraine but decisions are yet to be made. Four Belarus nationals are among the prisoners in Crimea.
The problem should be solved by ‘Russian and Ukrainian competent agencies’, Aleh Slizheuski said. Nevertheless, the Belarusian MFA, Ministry of Interior and other competent organs should also take part in the discussion of the Belarusian prisoners’ fate in Crimea.
