Most members of UN Security Council support Ukraine
The majority of the UN Security Council members have supported Ukraine’s anti-terrorist operation.
Only China made a diplomatically neutral statement. Ukraine thanked the international community for support and an adequate analysis of the situation. No tanks or missiles were used to fight peaceful citizens, Ukraine’s representative said. The only foreign soldiers in Ukraine are Russian diversionists, he added.
The meeting was held following Russia’s request on May 2. Russia’s representative Vitali Churkin criticized Kiev’s actions and the position of the USA. Russia did not refuse from February 21 agreements signed by Yanukovich, the opposition and western ambassadors, he said. However, Russia refused to sign the agreement back then. He also mentioned April 17 Geneva agreements.
U.S. representative Samantha Power responded to his criticism and accused Russia of lying again, Radio Liberty reports. Russia was the only side that refused to sign February 21 agreements, she noted. The Kremlin has no right to demand that the agreement should be fulfilled because the document only concerns those who signed it, Power thinks.
