In 2023, National Airport Minsk served more than 2.5 million passengers, BELTA reports with reference to the general director of the airport Vyachaslau Kharaneka. Before the restrictions (first because of COVID, then because of the incident with the Ryanair plane) in 2019, Minsk airport was used by more than 5 million passengers in a year.
Kharaneka noted the "unstable situation in the aviation industry" and the difficult conditions "in which the airport has been operating for the past few years." However, he said, based on the results of 2023, "there is a positive dynamics of production indicators". The number of flights increased by 15.5% to the level of 2022, the number of passengers - by 20.7%.
Last year, the airlines actively increased flights from Minsk to Russian regions. In addition, Southwind Airlines started flying to Minsk from Istanbul. Istanbul remains one of the few transit countries through which Belarusians can fly to the EU.
