National Bank does not want to share yuans with Belarusians

The National Bank has been keeping money in dollars, euro and has recently started using Chinese yuans.   However, it is impossible to buy yuans in currency exchange offices in spite of the fact that “Belarusbank” started using this currency in March. Somebody has to sell yuans before somebody else can buy them.
ERB received this reply in Pinsk affiliate of the bank.

Affiliate #121, Pіnsk: “We accept yuans, you can come. 270 roubles for one yuan… We do not have any… If you brought some there would be something to sell”.

The central office of “Belarusbank” informed us that affiliate #100 in Brest, Pinsk affiliate #121, Baranavichy affiliate #802 and three Minsk affiliates – 511, 520 and 524 accepted yuans.

There were no yuans in those affiliates. Minsk transit bank also lacks the Chinese currency – it is the only bank accepting yuans besides “Belarusbank”.

“No, unfortunately we do not have any. We are working with the note circulation. This is a special currency… We never have a lot of yuans. Sometimes people sell 200, 300 or 400 yuans. But they are in a great demand so they are sold out very quickly”.

400 yuans would cost 108 thousand Belarusian roubles. However, it is impossible to do it. It is a pity because an economist Leanid Zaika says that it is a forward-looking decision:

“The Chinese yuan is a very serious currency. It is progressing, it is promising and reliable. Belarus should have started working with yuans long ago. If people preserve their money in yuans it will be a forward-looking decision. This currency is reliable. Yuan occupies one of the first positions if you consider the reliability of the dollar, euro and Japanese yen”.

The most exotic currency that can be bought in Belarus is the Japanese yen. Belzneshecanombank works with it. Besides Russian roubles, hryvnias, dollars, euro and others, you can buy Cyprian pounds and Turkish liras in Minsk transit bank. Theoretically, you can buy Chinese yuans there too…
