Nobel Literature Prize laureate to be announced today
Belarusian Svyatlana Aleksiyevich is one of the main candidates, bookmakers say.
Bookmakers put Aleksiyevich in the top-3. The Nobel Prize in Literature is one of the five prizes awarded according to the testament of famous Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel. The award ceremony is held on December 10 every year. The founder of the prize died on this day.
Canadian writer Alice Munro received the prize last year. There are 210 candidates on the list now.
The Swedish Academy was founded in 1786. It was created by King Gustav III in order to support the Swedish language and literature. There are 18 members in it – they are elected by permanent members of the academy for life.
