Nobel Prize winner Alexievich to Lukashenka: Step down before it's too late!
Events in Belarus have shocked many people in the world / Reuters
Belarusian writer and Nobel Prize in Literature winner Svetlana Alexievich issued a touch description of what the government is doing against its own people. Talking to Radio Svaboda on August 11, she noted the radicalization of society in response to the actions of the riot police forces, which "none of us could even imagine."
"They are just grabbing people in the streets. Detainees are held in sports halls without food or water. And the most important thing is that people are absolutely peaceful," Alexievich wrote.
The writer stresses that "nobody can see around themselves those who like Lukashenka, who stands up for him like before." She wrote appealing to Lukashenka:
"Go away before it is too late before you drag people into the terrible hole of civil war. Step down!”.
