Opposition activist Anatol Lyabedzka gathered 15 thousand signatures within one week. His team says they were hoping for 22-23 thousands.
Withing one week, the nominating group of the United Civil Party Head Anatol Lyabedzka (pictured) collected 15 thousand signatures in support of the nomination of a presidential candidate. The group said that they were hoping for 22-23 thousand, BelaPAN reports.
Deputy Chairman of the United Civil Party, Leu Marholin, does not exclude that the nominating group may fail to collect the amount of candidate signatures necessary for registration of the presidential candidate. According to him, "people are very apathetic," many "pass by, busy with their problems."
The collection of signatures will last until August 21. Recently, the chairman of the nominating group of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus candidate Syarhei Haidukevich said it had collected 55,000 signatures. Yesterday, it became known that the nominating group of Alyaksandr Lukashenka had already submitted to the local commissions more than 100 thousand signatures.
