Nyaklyayeu: Yanovich was an all-Belarusian writer
The well-known writer has commented on another loss for the Belarusian culture.
Belarusian writer from Białystok Sakrat Yanovich died in Poland yesterday. Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu has assessed the Podlasie writer's contribution:
Nyaklyayeu: "Despite the fact that Sakrat Yanovich lived in Podlasie, Białystok and Warsaw for all his life, he was not a regional writer and thinker. He was an all-Belarusian writer. His talent, intellect and world outlook made him one of the most important literary men in our country."
Yanovich offered free accommodation for an indefinite term to Nyaklyayeu when he was abroad in 1999.
Nyaklyayeu: "I did not make use of Mr. Yanovich's generous offer and came for three days only. But I still remember the three days as the warmest and brightest days of my life. He tried to do everything to make me see that the world was not hostile, so that I would not feel like an orphan. He behaved like a person who cared about other people."
