Obama phones Putin
The U.S. and Russian Presidents have discussed the situation in Ukraine.
Barack Obama has shared his ideas on how to settle the conflict in Ukraine with Vladimir Putin. Russia and Ukraine should start direct negotiations and international observers should be sent to Ukraine to guarantee the safety of all citizens, the U.S. President thinks. Russian soldiers should go back to their military bases. This diplomatic way of settling the Crimean crisis could allow “preserving Russia, the Ukrainian people and the international community’s interests,” UNIAN quotes the White House.
“It is not worth spoiling the bilateral relations because of Ukraine”, the Kremlin press service quotes Putin. The Russian president voiced his earlier points about “absolutely illegitimate decisions” Kiev was imposing on “East, South East Ukraine and Crimea”. “Russia cannot ignore appeals for support and is acting according to the international legislation norms,” Vladimir Putin told the American President.
