Obama: Russia’s economy at standstill due to sanctions
The sanctions are a huge burden for the Russian economy, the U.S. President noted at a press conference in Washington.
White House spokesperson Laura Lucas Magnuson commented on Russia’s ban on the import of agricultural products, raw materials and food. She said that measures aimed against the West and western companies would enhance Russia’s international isolation and produce a negative effect on its economy, BBC reports.
Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced special economic measures ‘to protect the country’s national interests’ on Wednesday. His decree imposes a ban on the import of agricultural products, raw materials and food from the countries that introduced sanctions against Russia in connection with the events in Ukraine.
Russia is ready to ban the import of fruit and vegetables from the European Union and the import of agricultural products including chicken from the USA.
