Odessa police chief sacked after May 2 events
Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov announced it, Ukrainian mass media report.
The decision to dismiss Pyotr Lutsyuk has not come into power for formal reasons, the MIA press service reports. An official inquiry into the work of the police during the tragic events in Odessa on May 2 is in process, news.liga.net reports.
Mass clashes of pro-Russia activists with adherents of united Ukraine occurred in Odessa on May 2. 43 people were killed, official sources report. A few hundred people were injured.
Three-day mourning for the killed was declared in Odessa.
Governor of the oblast Vladimir Nemirovski blamed the police for the deaths. Policemen violated their oath and the demands of the oblast administration, he said.
