A number of officials from Homel meat-packing plant, Homel City Executive Committee and the Ministry of Agriculture and Nutrition are under investigation. KGB started the criminal case for the distribution of tainted meat. The case is being studied by the Investigation Committee.
Over 100 tons of meat went bad at Homel meat-packing plant due to unsatisfactory storage conditions in May-December 2015. The plant director (supported by the senior deputy head of the Regional Executive Committee and deputy Minister of Agriculture and Nutrition) organized the processing and distribution of the meat. The tainted meat posed a threat to citizens’ health and life, the Investigation committee press service reports.
The officials tried to hide the information about the real situation at the plant. They were afraid of responsibility for their negligence.
The police have found the tainted meat, it will be eliminated soon.
Over 10 people are under investigation. They are suspected of power and authority abuse. The investigation is still in process.
