Minsk's Leninski District Court on 1 November sentenced poet and opposition figure Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu to 10 days of administrative arrest. “Lawlessness and disappointment,” opposition politician Pavel Sevyarynets wrote on Facebook describing the sentence. He wonders if any reaction will follow from EU officials or diplomats.
Euroradio reported earlier that on 21 October the unauthorized street rally titled 'March of Outraged Belarusians 2.0' took place in Minsk. It was organized by opposition figure Mikalai Statkevich. Nyaklyaeu today was punished for 'calls to hold a mass event in violation of the procedures to organize it.' Nyaklyaeu only said in one of his interviews before the rally that 'if one has will to defend his or her rights, one has to go and defend them.'
