Opposition activists escape repressions abroad
The events of December 19 and the post-election repressions have caused another emigration wave. Activists of the candidates’ election teams and famous people had to leave Belarus. It is not clear whether it is a temporary or prolonged phenomenon, informs “Nasha Niva”. Thus, several activists of “Tell the Truth” have already left the state – Victar Harbachou and Aleh Myatselitsa. They are in Brussels. The head of Minsk HQ of “Tell the Truth” Yury Aleinik, one of the leaders of Nyaklyayeu’s campaign, also spent some time in the Belgian capital. The guy is in Vilnius now. The leader of the movement “Free Youth” Mikita Krasnou and the head of “Future Movement” Vyachaslau Dziyanau have also left for Lithuania.
Andrei Kim, a former political prisoner and youth leader has decided to hide in Russia for a while. Kim served a 10-day sentence for taking part in the Square. However, he did not go home after his release. It was clever of him, because policemen were waiting for him to conduct a search in his flat.
The leader of the Right Alliance Yury Karetnikau has left for Kiev. Members of the organization were Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu’s bodyguards. Andrei Sannikau’s representatives – Zmitser Barodka and Andrei Babitski – are in Warsaw now. Andrei Sannikau’s former bodyguard Leanid Navitski is also abroad.
The directors of “Free Theatre” Mikalai Halezin and Natallya Kalyada are also taking their time before returning home. They have planned tours in the USA, Asia and work in Britain.
