Opposition demands re-election: in pictures
Up to three hundred people took part in a street rally for free and fair elections in central Minsk on September 12.
The action was called by Mikalaj Statkievic and Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu. Apart from them, Euroradio spotted Zmicier Daskievic, Vital Rymaseuski, Paval Sieviaryniec, Anatol Lyabedzka, Maksim Viniarski and other opposition leaders and activists.
The speakers repeated that there were no free and fair elections in Belarus. According to Daskievic, only two candidates - Boycott and Against All - won the September 11 parliamentary election.
Although riot police officers made an attempt to charge the opposition speakers, there were no detentions and they shortly after backed off following the orders from Minsk Riot Police Squad Commander Balaba.
The action participants marched along the central avenue to Independence avenue where Statkievic said the action was the launch of the new campaign for free elections and closed the rally. The whole event took not more than one hour.
Several activists stayed in the street for some time, reciting Belarusian poems.
