Opposition member seeks to sue Vitsebsk judge for Br3mn
Leanid Autukhou, the leader of the local branch of Belarusian Popular Front and an activist with For Freedom movement in Haradzets, Vitsebsk region, has lodged a law suit against judge Alena Kazilava, seeking Br3 million in moral damages. The activist was allegedly reprimanded for taking part in this year's Freedom Day action street action in Vitsebsk. Autukhou had to translate from the Russian language into Belarusian the ruling of the judge. The translation of two pages of text cost over Br55 thousand.
The youth activist also maintains that he suffered moral damages, because the judge prioritized the Russian language in Belarus and was not able to use the Belarusian, the second official language in the country. Thus, the defendant was denied his legal right to use his native language.
