Over 2000 convicts may be amnestied in Belarus
The amnesty timed to mark 70 years since the victory over the Nazi Germany will cover 8600 people.
This year’s amnesty is dated for the 70th anniversary of eth Victory and will affect about 8600 convicts, BelaPAN reports.
More than 2000 people may be released. About 700 convicts may leave open colonies and 5700 – criminal inspectorates.
“People who committed heinous crimes, murders, terrorist acts and involved in illegal drug trafficking’ will not be amnestied,” head of the National Security Committee Valery Haidukevich told Belarus 1.
However, people imprisoned for production, transportation, purchase or preservation of drugs without the intention to sell them have been added to the law on amnesty.
